How the Roulette Odds & House Edge Calculator works
Every standard roulette bet pays as though the wheel had 36 numbers, but the wheel has 37 or 38 pockets. That gap is the house edge. Pick the wheel and bet type to see the chance of winning, the payout and the average loss over a number of spins.
Formula
- Win probability = numbers covered ÷ pockets on the wheel
- Payout = (36 ÷ numbers covered) − 1 to 1
- House edge = 1 − (36 ÷ pockets) → 2.70% (single zero) or 5.26% (double zero)
Worked example
A straight-up bet on a European wheel wins 1 in 37 (2.70%) and pays 35 to 1. Over 100 spins of 10 the average loss is 27.03.
Frequently asked questions
Is any roulette bet better than another?
On a standard wheel every bet has the same house edge (the La Partage and En Prison rules on some single-zero tables reduce it on even-money bets). Bets differ in how often and how much they pay, not in average cost.

Calculators describe maths, not outcomes. Gambling is for adults aged 18+ and can be addictive — set limits and never stake money you cannot afford to lose.
