How the Poker Pot Odds Calculator works
Pot odds tell you the price of a call compared with what you can win. If your chance of completing your hand is higher than the equity the price requires, calling is profitable on this simple model. The calculator uses the exact chance of hitting at least one out; the rule of 4 and 2 is shown for quick table maths.
Formula
- Required equity = call ÷ (pot + call)
- Flop (47 unseen cards): equity = 1 − C(47 − outs, 2) ÷ C(47, 2)
- Turn (46 unseen cards): equity = outs ÷ 46
- Rule of thumb: outs × 4 on the flop, outs × 2 on the turn
Worked example
Pot 100, call 25: you need 20% equity. Nine flush outs on the flop give 35% (rule of 4 says 36%), so the call clears the price.
Frequently asked questions
Does this include implied odds?
No. Implied odds (money you may win on later streets), reverse implied odds and the chance your outs are not clean are not included.
Play responsibly
Calculators describe maths, not outcomes. Gambling is for adults aged 18+ and can be addictive — set limits and never stake money you cannot afford to lose.
